Another important pillar of the administrative machinery is the Judiciary of which the District & Sessions Judge is the head. As session judge his is the highest criminal court and a district judge is the highest civil court as well. Appeals against the decisions of the civil judge are heard by him and those against his orders by the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.
The Ghaziabad Judgeship came into existence on 14-11-1976 vide notification No. 7022/VII-A.N.358/76 dated 13-11-1976. The district of Ghaziabad was also formed on the same day. Ghaziabad judgeship was bifurcated from the Meerut Judgeship. The Court initially started functioning from the court campus at Model Town, Gandhinagar. Now it is adjacent to the collectorate campus, Rajnagar.
